After Nonito “The Flash Donaire” defeated Mexican boxer Jorge “Travieso” Arce in the third round via KO last December 16, 2012.
Donaire told HBO’s Larry Merchant that he aiming for the two fighters who everyone wants to see him face in the 122-pound division: Abner Mares and Guillermo Rigondeaux.
“First off, I want to get Mares because of the fact that he’s calling me out,” Donaire said. “I’m going to take that. If that doesn’t happen, we’ve always got Rigondeaux afterwards.”
Then Larry Merchant ask if her would demand the Top Rank get him a fight with Mares, who is promoted by rival Golden Boy Promotions, Donaire answered, “I have already. For the past two years. I have already.”
But some reports said that Bob Arum sees the fight between Donaire and Rigondeaux to happen in March 2013 while Arce said his going to retire after the fight with Donaire.
He said in a recent interview that he will discuss the proposed fight with both boxers’ camps in the new year.
Donaire possible opponent Rigondeaux has remains unbeaten in his eleven professional fights with eight wins via knockout and the reigning World Boxing Association champion in the Super Bantamweight division while Donaire has a record of 31 professional fights with 20 wins via knockout and 1 lose.
