Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan is the official vice presidential running mate of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Norfolk, Virginia. It was announced on Saturday, August 11, 2012.
His selection confirmed as earlier reports that he is Romney‘s chosen running mate.
There are some reports said that Romney introduced the seven-term congressman as his VP running mate during a joint public appearance at a naval museum with the USS Wisconsin as backdrop.
He said that “A lot of people may disagree with Paul Ryan, but I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t respect his character and judgment.”
Their nominations will be ratified by delegates to the Republican National Convention that will start on August 27 in Tampa, Florida.
Ryan is the chairman of the House Budget Committee, and primary author of conservative tax and spending.
In his speech, he vowed to “turn this thing around.” He also added that “Real solutions can be delivered. But, it will take leadership. And the courage to tell you the truth.”
After his announcement, he will be on a bus tour of four states that include North Carolina, Virginia, Florida and Ohio. These states has a combined 75 electoral votes which US President Barack Obama won in 2008.
