“In markets across the world, McDonald’s respects local cultures and has adopted our menu and dining experience to local preferences. The new restaurants in pilgrimage areas will be vegetarian-only because of the specific area and customer base,” a McDonald’sspokeswoman said in a statement.

McDonald’s in India, which has now around 250 outlets, has two different kitchen sections in their restaurants; one is for the non-vegetarian food and the other for cooking vegetarian food. They also offer vegetarian versions of some of its American classics, like the McVeggie burger and McSpicy Paneer.

Among the famous McDonald’s India burger is the McAloo Tikki, which is made with a spicy breaded potato patty, red onions, tomatoes, and vegetable sauce. It is noted to be occupying one-fourth of the restaurants’ total sales in the country, where chicken is being served instead of beef or pork as preferred by most locals.
