President Benigno S. Aquino III has declared the May 13, 2013 national elections a special public non-working holiday throughout the country to give the people the chance to cast their votes.
In a statement by presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda “The President has declared Monday, May 13, 2013, a special public (non-working) holiday throughout the country.”
The president said in Proclamation No. 571, s. 2013 “The Constitution designates national and local polls to be held on the second Monday of May.” Lacierda said
“The President wishes to enable the Filipino people to exercise their right to suffrage. We enjoin all eligible to use this non-working holiday to participate in the electoral process that forms the bedrock of our democracy.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive also issued Proclamation No. 459 in which declared the regular holidays, six special non-working holidays and special holidays for 2013.
