But after the recent pre-fight scuffle between Roach and several members of Rios’ camp, the mercurial coach further cut down his fight prediction.
According to Abac Cordero’s report to the Philippine Star, Roach thinks Pacquiao will knock Rios out in just two rounds.
“When I said like, ‘You knock him out in six,’ and he looked at me and said, ‘Six?’ And he goes like that [motioning with his two fingers],” said Roach.
The coach believes it could have been fueled by the commotion they had when Roach argued with Robert Garcia and Alex Ariza about Pacquiao’s gym schedule.
The incident turned into a full-blown fight, with Ariza kicking Roach in the chest.
Garcia and Ariza work as Rios’ trainers.
Roach said that Pacquiao asked him about the members of Rios’ camp who made fun of his Parkinson’s disease.
“[Pacquiao] said to me ‘are those the guys that made fun of you?’ and I said yes, and he said ‘that’s all I need to know’ and he walked away,” said the boxing trainer in an earlier report.
“He told me he’s going to take care of this guy quickly.”
The first time Roach got mocked by Rios’ camp was when he was training Pacquiao for the 2010 fight against “Tijuana Tornado” Antonio Margarito.
A video filmed by Elie Seckbach showed Margarito, Garcia, and Rios making fun of Roach’s Parkinson’s disease.
On fight night, however, Pacquiao manhandled the taller Margarito, breaking the latter’s orbital bone and nearly rendering the Mexican blind.
The Filipino boxer is scheduled to meet Rios in the ring on Sunday.
