Last August 14, Alicia Keys announced her fifth studio album entitled Girls On Fire.
“I’m in the studio right now working away on my new album and I am SO excited!!! I’m ignited!!! I’m like a match to a flame! I’ve had the title of this album in my mind for a long time,” she wrote. “It’s been hard to hold it back and now I’m not holding it back anymore! It is called Girl on Fire!!! And that’s exactly how I feel!!! You’ll be learning more about it soon… but let me just say before making this record, in some ways I felt like a lion locked in a cage…I felt like a girl misunderstood that no one really knew, I felt like it was time to stop making excuses for any part of my life that I wanted to change. Once I made that choice I became a Girl on Fire, the lion broke free!!” She wrote on her website.
She also said on a MTV interview that she want the album “liberate” and “empower” fans.
Today she revealed the official album cover art and announced that the album will released on November 27, 2012.
“Everything makes this record different. There’s nothing that’s the same. There’s not one thing that’s the same,” Keys says in the below video clip. “Everything that was kind of like the standard for me has been removed and I have had to start from zero. I have arrived at a place in myself that I’m comfortable being exactly who I am in this moment and sharing it with no reservations.”
She also announced that the first single, the title track “Girl On Fire“, will be made available on iTunes and radio on September 4,2012 before she performs it at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards on September 6, 2012.
