3 dead after plane crash in Jackson, Mississippi airport

There’s a Piper PA-32 single-engine plane reportedly crashed in a neighborhood near the airport in Jackson, Mississippi on the evening of Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

The said plane took off from the Hawkins Field Airport at 5:10 p.m. and is on its way toRaymond, Mississippi, according to the the FAA said.

Shortly after they leave the airport, the pilot asked for permission to return to the airport, according to a news release from the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority. The plane was unable to return and crashed.

A deputy fire chief who responded on the scene said that one person suffered minor injuries after escaping the burning home. The house was the only structure hit by the plane crash.

The small plane that crashed was reportedly owned by Roger and Michele Latham of Superior Pallet Company based in Flowood, Mississippi.

He revealed that her daughter, Emily, could have been on board but changed her plans. She said that Emily “went hunting.”

There are some witnesses described what happened to the scene to be engulfed with “large flames and black smoke rose about 50 feet from a burning house that was hit in the neighborhood of modest, single-family homes surrounded by big magnolia and oak trees about a half-mile from the zoo.”

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash together with FAA.
